How to Get Your Hair to Better Withstand Humidity

We’ve all been there. You spend thirty-minutes styling your hair only to step outside into the thick humid air and BOOM – goodbye sleek, shiny hair - hello frizz.

Days like this can really take a toll on our stress levels, confidence and our well-thought-out hairstyles, which is why we’re sharing a few ways to fight the good fight against frizz.

How To Protect Your Hair on High-Humidity Days

The truth of the matter is when it comes to protecting your hair from humidity - it’s a product game. Your hair is porous which means that it absorbs the water in the air on those sticky, wet humid days. And eventually, your hair just explodes – into what we commonly refer to as “frizz.”

It happens to the best of us – and in fact, most of us. It’s just science. So, here’s what you can do to limit that water absorption process.

Use a Smoothing Product

When it comes to preventing frizz, it all starts with hair-prep. Using a smoothing product is going to be your best chance of limiting the amount of moisture that your hair will absorb.. When you first get out of the shower, apply a smoothing product (or leave-in conditioner) to damp hair. Once your hair is styled, use some hairspray to make sure your hair stays intact, and the product is sealed in.

Tame That Frizz

Hair that is more prone to frizz, in any weather, has typically found its nemesis in humid air. For more long-term solutions, look towards using a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, and turn to a leave-in conditioner or an anti-frizz serum. Also, avoid using heat styling tools and brushing your hair when your hair is wet – this can lead to breakage and even more frizz, especially when it’s humid!

Style Your Hair Accordingly

Sometimes, the humidity can just be too much to deal with – on days like this, it’s best to try different hairstyles such as braids, buns, and ponytails.

Here are a few different looks to try that fight frizz:

-French braid

-Waterfall braid

-Messy bun

-Low bun

-High bun

-Fishtail braid

-Dutch braid

Lastly, if the frizz and humidity get to be too much here in Athens or nearby, book a deep conditioning treatment here at Hologram Salon.
